Post Race Lesson

My forearms went numb.

My lungs burned.

The hills kept coming.

I RAN MY OWN RACE…

I LOVED IT!

Did I still have expectations? Yes. Did I care what everyone else thought? A little…  In fact, when my training bestie (that blondie in the picture) took off and was in front of me, I literally thought, “If she beats me, I’m going to be pissed.”

Then I quickly hit my first mile at 7:25. PERFECT. I heard my coach in my head, “Can you hold that for two more miles?”

Yes, I can.  And I did.

I ran my own race and finished at 23:53.

If you do the math…that’s about a 7:50 pace.  I was aiming for at 7:20 pace. And because I’m competitive, I will put this disclaimer in right now…

The Garmin that gave me my first split also mapped the race to be 3.25 miles (not 3.1)…that puts me at a 7.25 mile pace.  I’m going to go with that. *wink*

The important take away – I ran MY race.  I performed the best I could on THAT day. And that is good enough for me.

Perfection is no longer in my vocabulary…PASSION IS.

Way to go Selena. Doesn’t that feel just GREAT!

I’m still laughing about, “If she beats me, I’m going to be pissed.” I’m so with you on that. I’ve thought that very same thing in a race.

    Stay strong and Be Inspired.

It’s the truth and I think it all the time. It’s a competitive sickness. I mean no harm, REALLY :)
