The sun came today. It inspired droves of people outside. How about you?
Something about warmth on your skin, blue skies, and a good sweat can take an average day and turn it into the bright spot in your week.
Even amidst REAL LIFE and the chaos that it may entail, we will venture out when the golden orb in the sky appears from its hiding place and bathes our bodies in it’s light. We celebrate with exercise.
And here you are. OUTSIDE. Enjoying your time when a runner scoots by. Effortless, glowing, and fit. Hmmm… I want some of that!
You begin to ponder:
“Is walking enough?”
“Is running better?”
“Would I even enjoy it?”
“Could I be a runner?”
“Do I EVEN CARE?”
“I just want to RADiate!”
Do you feel that? That excitement!? That craving for change in your life, your body, your RADiance!
Our bodies are DESIGNED for movement, whether it be walking, running, or even shaking your groove thang. Functional movement is the perfect way to have RADiance for YOUR REAL LIFE.
Walking is a great way to take what you know and apply it to your health. There is no mystery to walking. Just one foot in front of the other. Transitioning that movement to a quicker pace is natural. Running is not this elusive thing that we need to fear. Yet, so many of us have visions of agony and pain the minute you mention the word ‘run.’
I hear it all the time:
- “I’m not made for running”
- “I have bad knees”
- “Running is bad for you!”
- “I could never do THAT”
The complaints range from aches and pains to lack of motivation to the fear of looking like an idiot. Kind of crazy, considering our upright posture, musculature, and bone structure are designed for locomotion — yes, even running. I will agree there may be a degree of pain that comes with trying a new intensity of movement and there is a learning curve on how to manage this new skill correctly, but with the right information, coaching, and motivation, YOU…yes YOU…CAN run — AND LOVE IT!

Get ready…get set…RUN!

Stopping by from Write Like Freddy. Great post! I’m a runner, too. Two years ago, I never would have imagined that I could be. Looking forward to your series.
That’s great! We put limits on ourselves…and then we amaze ourselves
It’s like magic!
Hey Selena,
Growing up playing Soccer and Basketball, running was always a form of punishment. You did something the coach didn’t like, you talked back (something I was very good at) you ran laps or ran killers. When I started Triathlons I HATED running. I also didn’t know how to run slow, I was a sprinter. I could run around on a soccer field or a basketball court for hours, but couldn’t run 10 minutes slow on the road or trail. Now 4 years later I love running, I’ve drastically improved my form, and I’ve been able to focus on the positives and forget my experiences as a youth.
It can be addictive. For me, my fondest memories of my youth was running cross country and track. Seriously, when I smell the track, I get excited! Maybe it’s a sickness…
I took many years off, and then I found triathalons! My passion for running ( short distances ) was reborn.
I hope u can chime in with your experience as the series goes on.
Thanks!
